MY AUTHOR LIFE

4 min read

Well, this week has been rather busy! It has introduced the Darkness Series Street Team, 'Dubheasa's Dark Fairies', and I have to say I'm really proud, and extremely excited about it. The members are amazing, and they seem to love the story as much as I do. I love reading their comments and their guesses about what might happen next. I'm hoping it will grow into a fantastic community for all things Darkness! A big thank you to them all for joining me on my journey, their support really does mean the world to me.

Other news is, that I have been selected as a signing author at Scribefest Christmas Edition, Northamptonshire in November, and I really can't wait for that one.

I have also started purchasing my books wholesale, this means it is now worth me approaching indie book stores and asking if they would stock my book! You never know, you might find it in a shop near you one day.

In other areas, I have struggled, especially when it comes to reviews. Getting your head around criticism is tough, and I wish I didn't need reviews to get going. I've decided to stop reading them altogether; what will be, will be. But my, do I want to argue back, especially when they obviously haven't read it properly, or misunderstood it, or even implied that I should change Dubheasa's name because it's too difficult! (I would like to point out that the pronunciation guide is at the front of the book).

It's really not easy, and I have decided that the next time I advertise for arcs, I will be much more selective. It's a unique genre, and I need to ensure that the people reading are fans of it, not just after a free book.

I've also been preparing for my events to start, my first ones being in Manchester, Lincoln and Hull (check out the event list on my website). I dove into indie-publishing headfirst and hadn't considered that the events would already be booked up. So, if you ever consider publishing yourself, check the events out at least six months earlier if you plan on attending some. I published in April, and my first real book event isn't until September.

My artwork is coming along nicely, with Dubheasa almost finished. I'll be revealing the image soon. I just need Sadie, and then I'll have a set of characters that I can make some products with for selling at events. I'm also working on the Silkwing cottage.

Signing off for now, got some books to wrap before I post them out.

Ok, so this is something I've never done before! I grew up without the internet or fancy computers, and although I've come a long way with using them, becoming an author has proven to me that I have a
